Our K-8 Classroom Suite

Our K-8 Classroom Suite is how we at True Robotics bring hands-on robotics to every elementary and middle school student. Treads is for K-3, Pilot for 3-5, and Axle for 6-8. Together they give your school reusable robots from $200 each, a grab-and-go curriculum for every grade, and one-on-one teacher training.

A program for every grade band

Whichever grades you teach, we have a program written for your students. Each one comes with its own robot, our curriculum for every grade in its band, and the same one-on-one training for your teachers. In our K-3 program, social and emotional learning is part of every lesson.

We price curriculum licensing and professional development separately and bundle them into Classroom Packages at a discount. Prices subject to change. Request a Quote.

If your classrooms run Pilot or Axle, you can add FlexForge, our kit of extra pieces, motors, and gears that takes the robot your students already built into real-world engineering challenges. FlexForge Basic is $149 per kit and Enhanced is $349. See FlexForge.

Our three programs side by side

Paving the Way with Treads fits right into your core classroom as a flexible tool, while Taking Off with Pilot and Introduction to Robotics with Axle run as units that build from the first day to the last.

What your school gets

Our robots, curriculum, and training

Students work at tables across a classroom with Axle Robot Kit boxes and Chromebooks while one student codes beside a purple Axle robot

We believe every student should get to learn with robots, not just the top 10 to 20 percent. So each of our programs brings reusable robot kits, a grab-and-go curriculum, and one-on-one teacher training together, ready for your teachers from day one.

In the box

What comes with our robots

Two students at a science lab bench build a purple robot kit together, one turning a screwdriver while the other holds a part beside the printed guide

Every robot and kit arrives ready for class, with real-world tools, the batteries and chargers, and double the screws your students will need. Our Pilot and Axle kits also include a game controller your students learn to program.

What our Classroom Packages include

  • A classroom set of our reusable robots
  • Licensing for all of our lesson plans, slide decks, and worksheets
  • Our Learning Portal and its self-paced training videos
  • One-on-one training for your teachers, held virtually

From year two on, your school already has our robots and trained teachers, so the only thing to plan for is the yearly license renewal.

What your school provides

The only thing your students need is a device to code on, one for each group of two to three. True Robotics Playground runs on:

  • Windows
  • Mac
  • Chromebook
  • iPad
  • Android tablet

Sharing a set

One set of robots, many classrooms

Three elementary students smile as they steer Axle and Pilot robots with game controllers while classmates watch from the gym floor

With two students on each Treads Robot and two to three on each Pilot or Axle kit, a class of 24 needs 12 Treads Robots or 8 to 12 kits.

  • Reusable year after yearOur robots and kits stay with your school.
  • Shared across your schoolTreads can move from class to class all day.

Implementation, funding, and standards

Every plan starts with two questions: how many days can you give each unit, and what are your goals for your students? From there, a dedicated person from the True Robotics team helps you plan the rest.

Fitting it into your year

Many schools start with one grade band and add the others later. Staggering your units lets one set of our robots move from grade to grade across the fall, winter, and spring.

Paying for your program

Title I, Title II, and Title IV funds can each help pay for your program. We also research the grants open to your school and help you with the application.

Aligned to your standards

All three of our programs line up with your state’s standards, and each one builds grade-level math, science, and computer science right into the lessons.

Questions about our K-8 Classroom Suite

What is the K-8 Classroom Suite?

The K-8 Classroom Suite is our family of three True Robotics programs for kindergarten through grade 8, each built on reusable robot kits, a grab-and-go curriculum for every grade, and one-on-one teacher training. We're proud of our robots, but we take the most pride in our curriculum and our training. Together they give your school everything it needs to run robotics well and keep your students engaged year after year. Many schools start with one grade band and add the others later.

Is True Robotics a complete, turn-key program for our school?

Yes. Our True Robotics Classroom Packages bring your school a classroom set of reusable robots, our grab-and-go curriculum with a lesson plan and ready-made PowerPoint for every lesson, our 24/7 Learning Portal, and one-on-one teacher training. That means your teachers can start without building anything from scratch.

Why does third grade appear in both Treads and Pilot?

Third grade appears in both True Robotics programs on purpose, so your school can match our robot to your students. Paving the Way with Treads suits third graders who are new to robotics, because its coding is simpler to pick up. Taking Off with Pilot suits third graders who are mechanically inclined or ready for more: they build the Pilot Robot Kit, and the coding levels up. For a full K-8 pipeline, we recommend Treads in kindergarten, first, and second grade, then Pilot from third grade.

Do students build the robots, and what can the robots do?

Yes. Your students in grades 3 to 8 build the True Robotics Pilot Robot Kit and Axle Robot Kit themselves, while the Treads Robot arrives ready to use. Pilot has about 150 pieces that students put together with real tools in one to three class periods, and its ultrasonic sensor lets it avoid walls. Axle, Pilot's big brother, has about double the pieces and adds a light sensor underneath for line following. Both come with a game controller your students learn to program, plus every tool and piece.

Do teachers need coding experience?

No. Your teachers need no coding or robotics experience to teach True Robotics, because our lessons and training are built for teachers brand new to robotics. Every teacher starts off with a one-on-one training session, alongside our self-paced Learning Portal. Then every school we work with receives additional professional development, in person, virtually, or both. Every teacher also has an assigned point of contact, and teachers with experience can take a quicker path.

Does True Robotics work in special education and therapeutic settings?

Yes. Every True Robotics program is a great fit for any learning environment, including traditional, alternative, and sub-therapeutic settings, as well as afterschool programs and summer camps. Every lesson file comes as an editable Word document, so your teachers can make modifications and accommodations for different groups of students. Treads works especially well for students who struggle with workbook seat work. Audrey Brooks, a special education teacher in Worcester Public Schools, saw her students applying basic code in a short time.

What is the best age to start robotics?

At True Robotics, we believe the best time to start robotics is early, so our programs begin in kindergarten and run through grade 8. Your youngest students start with the Treads Robot, which arrives ready to use and is coded with simple picture blocks. In grades 3 to 5, your students build and code the Pilot Robot Kit, and in grades 6 to 8, the Axle Robot Kit. We want every student to see themselves in STEM early and often, so they make more informed decisions about their future.

What is robotics in elementary school?

In elementary school, robotics with True Robotics means coding real robots while practicing math, reading, and science, from kindergarten through grade 5. In grades K to 3, Paving the Way with Treads brings the ready-to-use Treads Robot into your math centers and ELA small groups, with 25 lessons per grade. In grades 3 to 5, Taking Off with Pilot has your students build the Pilot Robot Kit, then code it through 25 lessons per grade. Both programs come with our grab-and-go curriculum and one-on-one teacher training.
